solar barricade lights, solar barricade light, blue solar barricade light, blue solar barricade lights, traffic safety store, traffic safety productsI have mentioned in my other posts that there are about three main colors when it comes to solar barricade lights; yellow, red and blue.  When someone comes to me looking for a blue solar light, they seem to always need them for railroads.

I am not an expert in the railroad industry, but I assume that a there must be a requirement that the lights are blue.  Another common feature is magnetic bottoms.

solar barricade lights, solar barricade light, solar construction light, type b barricade light, traffic safety products, traffic safety storeBecause there are solar barricade lights that are significantly cheaper than others, naturally some distributors and manufacturers are going to call others fake.  In fact there are some that look identical but are a lot cheaper.

This can mean that that particular light has either been modeled after the original light.  I am not sure if that means it is ‘counterfeit’ or ‘fake’, but to me, if a light works and meets the specs, that should be your primary concern.

type 3 barricades, type 3 barricade, traffic barricade, plastic traffic barricades, plastic traffic barricade, traffic safety products, traffic safety storeWhether you know it or not, type 3 barricades are either made out of plastic or wood.  And it isn’t as simple as just that.  You can also get traffic barricades that are either ‘blow molded’ or ‘injection molded’.

The difference is that one is ‘filled’ with plastic in the panel while the other panel is hollow.  This means that if a panel that is filled is hit with a car, chances are it will hold the impact better than a panel that is hollow.

solar barricade lights, solar barricade light, barricade light, type b barricade lights, solar type b barricade lightsI know of at least 4 different brands of solar barricade lights, which means there are at least 4 different models out there.  What are the differences?  Well, from what I have seen the main difference is just the way it looks.

Most people in the traffic safety industry who know a decent amount about solar barricade lights can tell the brand of light just by looking at it, which means the main difference is in fact the design.  This doesn’t mean that some of the specs like how long they last are not different, but just suggests that they aren’t as varied as you may think.

The way it works is that the solar panels are designed to charge an internal battery which then holds the charge for a certain amount of time.  After 3+ years the battery dies, and on some models you can get new batteries by contacting the manufacturer.

solar barricade lights, barricade lights, type b solar barricade lights, solar barricade lightDid you know there are different kinds of solar barricade lights?  Driving on the highway you may notice some of them are hooded, while some of them are not.  Hooded lights means that they are type b barricade lights.

Type b barricade lights are high intensity which means they can be seen easily 24/7.  Typical barricade lights can only really be seen during the night.  The type b lights are good for highway construction to be sure that the k-rails and other barrier barricades are not hit.

solar barricade lights, solar barricade light, barricade light, barricade lightsIf you have a problem with your solar barricade lights, I would suggest you first go to your distributor and then to your manufacturer if the problem is not solved.  Sometimes the manufacturer knows more about the product than the distributor.

Another suggestion is to do a quick search on the internet.  There is an abundance of resources available on the net so don’t think you won’t find what you are looking for!

solar barricade lights, solar barricade light, solar powered barricade light, solar powered barricade lightsIf you see solar barricade lights, that is lights that attach to either a barricade, traffic drum, or airport barricade, and they are in an airport, chances are they are red.  It is required by the FAA that these lights are red.

If you are on the road, you will see these lights in yellow most of the time.  You may occasionally find them in red or blue, but blue is more common on railroads and like mentioned earlier, red is usually found in airports.

solar barricade lights, solar lights, barricade lights, solar barricade light, traffic safety store, traffic safety productsHow long do solar barricade lights last?  The best way to measure this is to find out how long the battery lasts in the barricade light.  Because it is solar, it is charged by the sun, but there is still a battery which can sometimes be replaced.

The best way to know is to call the manufacturer and ask.  It may be worth your while to find out if these battery can be replaced, how easy it is to replace them and how much it costs.

solar barricade lights, solar barricade light, solar construction light, solar warning light, barricade lightsIf you are wondering what colors solar barricade lights come in, you have stumbled upon the correct blog post.  The most common color without a doubt is yellow/amber, but there are a few other colors as well.  You may find red on an airport, because that is the standard color for airports.

You may find blue on a railroad, because they are what is required for railroads.  Besides that, I do not know of many other colors, but I am sure they exist!
