The reflective sheeting or reflective tape options for a type 3 barricade depends on a couple things. If you are buying the traffic barricades ready made (meaning coming with the reflective tape you need) from the manufacturer or distributor, you want to look out for the grades of sheeting. Engineer Grade is the most common, this grade is the least expensive.
HI Intensity Grade is the next one up, and Diamond Grade comes after that. To get the most bang for your buck, try buying the reflective tape from the manufacturer of the reflective tape, to avoid the markup the middle man puts on the tape.
Barricade Lights Brand
There are many different types of barricade lights. There are different brands, different options such as voltage, solar or battery powered, and different size batteries. Some of the brands of barricade lights include Collt and Empco.
Collt barricade lights are strictly one type, 6 volt battery powered. They do not carry d cell options or any sort of solar option. Empco has a wide selection of barricade lights such as 6 volt, d cell, type d, type a and c, solar assist, type b, etc.
Traffic Drums Can Cause Anger
Not only does a huge influx of traffic drums and other safety equipment during construction season anger most people, it can cause stress. Traffic drums mean longer delays in your commute, and the anxiety of fitting your SUV between them in tight construction zones.
When you get to a spot where it is a pain to get through, the most important thing is to keep your speed down. The slower you go, the less chance of a drum ending up underneath your car, and causing lots of damage.
Type 3 Barricades Price Range
Price for anything does and always will depend on the brand, but for type 3 barricades this seems more true than ever. I have seen differences in prices as much as 40% between brand for different type 3 barricades.
Though the wage of the workers and the quality of the material may vary, a gap that high is worth buying the cheaper barricade. Make sure to thoroughly shop around before purchasing anything, there are many companies out there selling these traffic barricades.
Delineator Post Mounting
A delineator post can be mounted or can have a base. Typically they are purchased with a base, but you can buy epoxy which is a sticky glue like substance on a pad that you stick between the bottom of the delineator and pavement or concrete.
A delineator post is most likely going to be mounted to pavement or concrete if the project is more permanent. A base allows the delineators to be moved around and placed wherever whenever. It allows for a lot more versatility.
Traffic Drum Questions and Concerns
Before you buy a traffic drum from a vendor, you may have a few questions. What brand is best? What does ‘grade’ mean when selecting reflective tape for my barricade? What is reflective tape? What are my base options?
All of these questions should be addressed before you purchase your traffic drums. The brand of traffic drum doesn’t really change the quality, so try to focus more on the options that are available to you and not the brand name.
Type 3 Barricades or Type 1 Barricades?
Recently, on my campus I noticed a lot of type 3 barricades. I knew they were type 3 because of the fact that there were 3 boards, but they were not as wide as I expected. They may have been around 4 feet wide, while I am used to seeing type 3 barricades that are 6-10 feet wide.
At first I thought they were just type 1 barricades because of their width. A type 1 barricade typically has 1 board while a type 2 has two boards.
Traffic Cone Issues
A traffic cone is pretty simple, so you may be surprised to see a post about traffic cone problems. Well, they do exist, and the majority of the time it has to do with the quality of the cone. One issue with traffic cones may be the material it is made out of.
Always be weary of a traffic cone that comes from China. They can become disfigured under the heat and turn different colors. Other issues include the quality of the reflective tape. Try looking into these issues before purchasing traffic cones.
Traffic Drums mean Construction
Commuting to work you may notice a large amount of traffic drums or traffic barrels on the side of the road. They mean construction season because they are used to barricade the traffic from the construction on the side of the road. You may even see blinking barricade lights on top of the traffic drum.
Traffic drums are typically either orange or yellow. The orange ones have reflective bands, and the yellow ones are bigger and are usually found at the off ramps for exits. They are filled with sand and used to cushion any potential impact.

Where did the type 3 barricade come from? Well, there isn’t much information about when type 3 barricades were invented, but one would think that they were invented a few years after roadways were invented. Logically, after a few years of the road being invented one would think the traffic barricade would be invented.
