Type 3 Barricades – What’s in a name?
Where did type 3 barricades get their name from? Well, the number stands for the number of sheeted boards. For example, a type 1 barricade has one board that is sheeted (though it could have two boards, since the second board isn’t sheeted it’s still considered a type 1).
A type 2 barricade can look just like a type 1, however two of the boards would be sheeted. The type has nothing to do with the level of sheeting. The three is also a flat barricade where the one and two have an ‘a-frame’ shape.
Type 3 Barricade Terms
There are about a million terms (ok I exaggerated) when it comes to a type 3 barricade. When I first entered the industry, I figured there are most likely one or two different terms that people call a product in the traffic safety industry.
Here are some examples of traffic barricade terms – type 1 barricade, traffic barricade, construction barricade, the list goes on and on. Using a search tool may be the most effective way of knowing what terms are used the most.
Type 3 Barricade – What are the Types?
There are a few different types when it comes to a type 3 barricade. You can get it in plastic or plywood, usually. They can also either be a permanent or temporary solution, depending on the job.
Other options include reflective tape, width of the boards, and which way you want the reflective tape to slant. Either way, make sure whoever you buy from has the option you are looking for because if they don’t, I am sure you can find another supplier that has that option.
What Adds up with a Type 3 Barricade
There are options that are added to a type 3 barricade which can really rack up the price. One good example is reflective tape. You can add up to $50 just by switching from EG sheeting to DG sheeting.
If you want a barricade light on top of the barricade, you are looking at a price increase from $20-$90, depending on the light. Another expense is the base, with options ranging from 3lbs to 40 lbs.
Type 3 Barricades Give Safety
It’s important to know that those type 3 barricades you see on the side of the road are actually there for your safety. Because we see so many of them during the construction season, we most likely get tired of anything orange and with reflective tape. But the truth is, all of those traffic safety products are very important.
Imagine a world without traffic barricades. We wouldn’t know what was and was not construction, we would probably end up going onto roads that are closed and have dead ends. In other words, we would probably be in a lot of trouble. Think of this next time you sigh at the site of a type 3 barricade.
