What exactly are traffic delineators?
If you are reading this you probably are trying to figure out what traffic delineators are because you were asked to purchase some yet have never heard of them before. Well, the image to the left is one of the more common delineators, it’s basically just a taller traffic cone (typically 42″ versus a 28″ traffic cone) that is a straight up and down post.
The yellow/white bands at the top of the posts are reflective, making them easier to be seen. Also, these require bases to stand up properly, which are not pictured here. They range from 8lb to 20lbs typically, I would recommend 12lbs or higher.
The top of the delineators can either be flat top, Ringtop, T Top, etc. Ringtops and T Tops or Grabber Tops are easier to pick up and move from the top handle, or thread rope/caution tape through.
We carry a few different versions of delineators click here to see our selection.
Understanding Delineator Posts
What exactly are delineators posts? They are similar to traffic cones except they are skinny and tall making them easier to be seen by cars. Delineators are used to ‘channelize’ or direct traffic into a certain zone, or to keep it out of a certain zone in the case of a road construction site.
There are multiple brands of delineator posts, and depending on what style you want, you may have to commit to the brand that produces that style. There are T Top Delineators which have a handle at the top. There are also Ringtop Delineators which also have a handle, but it’s more of a rectangular handle. Then there are standard Open Top Delineators which don’t have a handle so they are just flat or open at the top.
Questions on Delineator Posts
There are a couple different things you may be curious about when browsing the web for delineator posts. Typically, they are 42 inches, but you can usually also get them in 36 inches, 18, 28, 39 as well. You can get reflective tape on them as well, and typically people get them with (2) 3 inch bands.
There are other options as well such as bases and colors. You can choose the color of the delineator post itself, it can be white, orange or yellow though it does depend on the supplier. The base weight is somewhere between 10 and 20lbs.
