Solar Barricade Lights – Brands
I know of at least 4 different brands of solar barricade lights, which means there are at least 4 different models out there. What are the differences? Well, from what I have seen the main difference is just the way it looks.
Most people in the traffic safety industry who know a decent amount about solar barricade lights can tell the brand of light just by looking at it, which means the main difference is in fact the design. This doesn’t mean that some of the specs like how long they last are not different, but just suggests that they aren’t as varied as you may think.
Solar Barricade Lights – Why the Hoods?
I have had a lot of people ask me why there are hoods on some solar barricade lights and not on others. Well, it has to do with the type of solar barricade light. The type b barricade lights have hoods while the regular lights do not.
Why is this? This is because it allows a bigger solar panel to be mounted on top. It also does a better job of directing the light so that it is as bright as possible.
Help with Barricade Lights
This post is to give people who are having trouble with their barricade lights some help. I have gotten calls from customers who don’t know how to turn on their barricade lights. It depends on the brand, but usually there is a small hole in the center of (or side of) the light where you can poke a pin or something in to turn it from on to steady burn to off.
Another issue some people have is with solar barricade lights. Sometimes it can be tricky to know if they have a charge or not, so always be sure to keep them out in good sunlight for a day or so if you suspect that it is broken. This ensures that they either are or are not broken, because some brands of solar barricade lights will lose their charge over time if stored somewhere.
A Barricade Light?
We pass construction all the time, but we may not know all of the names of the equipment we are passing. Sure, most people don’t care that those blinking lights on top of the orange drums or signs are called a barricade light, but this post is for those that do want to know. Just look throughout my blog to learn about the various names of those products.
The blinking lights are called barricade lights, the orange drums are called traffic drums or channelizer drums, the tall skinny tubes are called delineators. I can go on an on, because there is such a variety of products. There are more categories and more products within the name ‘barricade light’, for example Type B Barricade light, solar barricade lights, type a barricade light, type c barricade light, type d barricade light.
