Pragmatic Fabric

It may not be as popular as cotton or as classy as silk but mesh is an ultra useful fabric. This netlike, woven material comes in several varieties, making it truly versatile and suitable for clothing, luggage, outdoor gear, and scores of other things.

Of course, the mesh fabric used to line jackets is not the same as the ones used for mosquito nets.  Sport or nylon mesh is the type that is perfect for clothing particularly windbreakers, jerseys and shorts. It is available in black, white, red, and varied shades of blue. Power mesh, a medium weight mesh with four-way stretch, is used on bathing suits and stirrups.  The stiffer polyester dive mesh and medium poly mesh are best for bags, a reflective safety vest, and storage compartments.  Mosquito nets need a very finely woven, pure polyester kind of mesh to deny entry to even the most miniscule of insects. There are also other types of mesh that can be relied on for bag straps, venting and pockets, outdoor furniture, window screens, screen doors, and umbrellas.
